Pearl Django has cultivated a devoted and enthusiastic following and they continue to play to packed houses. \nSeattle jazz vibraphonist Susan Pascal has taken her music through four tours of Singapore\, plus concerts\, workshops\, and clinics across the USA. Pascal is heard on numerous motion picture sounds and is a guest artist on recordings by vocalist Greta Matassa. Pascal’s eclectic musical interests are reflected in her own projects. Soul Sauce quintet is a tribute to Latin jazz icon Cal Tjader\, and her new Brazil Project band features the rich rhythmic and melodic traditions of Brazil.

DESCRIPTION:The Jansen Art Center is pleased to welcome Barbara Sternberger to the Inn at Lynden for an exhibit of her work. The exhibit opens on Friday\, February 7 and will be on display through June 8\, 2020. \nBarbara Sternberger has lived and worked in Bellingham since 1993. She has taught painting every summer at WWU for 23 years and for the past decade\, holds private painting workshops. \nBarbara’s gallery representation for the past 20 years has been with the prestigious Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland Oregon. She also shows with Linda Hodges Gallery in Seattle. Her exhibition “Confluence”\, was reviewed October 2013 ARTnews magazine. Solo museum exhibitions include the Museum of Northwest Art and Whatcom Museum. Her work has been included in the U.S. Art in Embassies Program and featured in group exhibitions on both coasts. \nRecent awards: \n2018 Artist Trust Fellowship\, Seattle WA \n2017 Annual Neddy Artist Awards Finalist\, Seattle WA

SUMMARY:Interlacements\, Documentary Screening
DESCRIPTION:The documentary Interlacements will be shown at the Jansen Art Center on Saturday\, Feb. 1\, at 4 PM in the Chamber Hall. This movie was produced by Marilyn Romatka\, a fiber artist and long-time friend of the Jansen Textile Studio\, and her husband Rainer. They will be present to introduce the film and answer questions after the screening. \nThe film highlights the connections made through the fiber arts: the Seattle Weavers Guild and the Seattle Children’s hospital\, the deep emotional pull of a finely made rug by Marji Fiddler\, more about John Beard and the wonderful robes he has made in the tradition of coastal native people\, the link between a guitar player and the woman who made his guitar strap\, and our very own local group of weavers who have had long and enduring friendships through their fiber interests. \nThis is a new take on hand-weaving\, focusing not on how threads come together\, but rather how lives are joined when people are touched by cloth.

SUMMARY:Falling Out of the Box
DESCRIPTION:Falling Out of the Box is an annual jewelry design challenge hosted by the Jansen Art Center. \nThe exhibit begins on Thursday\, October 10 with an Opening Reception at the Jansen Art Center from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. This year’s challenge\, Lost but Not Forgotten\, is inspired by the shape\, color\, and movement of lost earrings. The artist then creates a wearable piece of jewelry from it. \nArtists of all skill level are encouraged to participate – the challenge involves the fabrication of metal jewelry from supplies provided in the mystery Material Box. In order to participate\, artists register by purchasing a Material Box and then have 5 weeks to complete a piece. \nDuring the reception\, many of the artists will be on hand to answer questions about their work; there will be Live Music in the Piano Lounge with Kevin Burt that is a part of the Lynden Music Festival. The Firehall Cafe will be open and serving from its full menu of food and drinks; and attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Awards.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the largest harvest of raspberries in North America in Lynden\, July 19th & 20th\, 2019 with the Northwest Raspberry Festival presented by WECU\, in partnership with the Washington Red Raspberry Commission. \nJuly is the peak time to get your share of Lynden’s bountiful crop of red raspberries while enjoying the summer sunshine and a variety of family-friendly activities at our annual community celebration\, featuring local musicians on two stages\, crafts\, food\, kids’ activities\, 3-on-3 basketball\, classic automobile cruise-in\, raspberry treats\, beer garden\, raspberry wine and spirits tasting and more. \nThe festivities kick off on Friday\, July 19th in downtown Lynden including; live music on two stages\, face painting and inflatables for kids\, the “Rookies” 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Dine on luscious raspberry & ice cream sundaes\, parfaits and pies made from local products\, or purchase a flat of raspberries\, picked fresh daily from nearby farms to take home! Shop at Lynden’s downtown merchants and street vendors at the “Berry Fair” Street Market\, and enjoy a ice cold raspberry beer at the “Timeout Razz Beer-y” Garden. Don’t miss out on Bellewood Acres raspberry infusion vodka & Honey Moon Winery’s Raspberry wine and hard cider being featured at the festival. Start Saturday morning off right with an all-you –can-eat pancake breakfast topped with local raspberries at the Lynden Community Center. \nDon’t forget to cheer on your favorite team at the Curt Maberry Memorial Classic 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.
